Saint Tryphon is a low-intervention winery tucked into an 1890s homestead in historic Sisterdale, Texas, just a scenic ten-minute drive from Boerne. Beneath open Hill Country skies and rolling limestone hills, we craft honest, expressive bottles rooted in the timeless truth that great wine is formed by the symbiosis of nature and nurture.
As we celebrate over a decade in business, our core philosophy remains unchanged: we follow a strict non-interventionist winemaking approach. By allowing the unique character of 100% Texas-grown fruit to express itself without force—often relying on native yeast, wild fermentation, and bottling unfined and unfiltered—we truly believe we are producing some of the finest wine being made in Texas today.
But a winery is only as deep as its stories. Our vineyard sanctuary is the meeting place of two completely different journeys, bound by a shared instinct that wine, done right, creates rare, life-changing human connections.
Andrea’s Journey: Wine is Medicine
Born and raised in Lubbock, in the Texas High Plains—the vital viticultural region that grows the vast majority of the state’s premium wine grapes—Andrea has always held a deep bond with her Texas roots. However, her eyes were fully opened to the cultural power of the vine while traveling through wine regions, most notably, Argentina after college. She found herself, synchronistically, working as a cellar hand in New Zealand.
Andrea then spent a decade on Maui, where her sister is also in the wine industry at the only winery in Hawaii, Maui Wine. She founded a healing beauty brand centered on grounding connection to oneself, nature, and community. Her finest creation from her time in the islands—a decadently unique chocolate body scrub—invites people into a revitalizing self-care ritual that is still lovingly shared in Maui and right here in our Texas tasting room today.
Through every chapter, Andrea has carried a beautiful guiding truth close to her heart: wine is medicine. It serves as a gentle, physical reminder to slow down, savor life, and connect with one another through one of humanity’s most sacred customs: sharing a bottle of wine.
Silouan’s Path: A Lifetime of Learning & Storytelling
Silouan’s path to the cellar began at just nineteen during a chance dinner in Napa Valley with a legendary winemaker—a providential moment that introduced him to the true beauty of the wine lifestyle.
Years later, a unique thread of destiny reemerged. While discerning a monastic life at a Greek Orthodox monastery in Texas, Silouan’s background and connections helped the monks successfully craft their very first vintage. Armed with a degree in literature and a deep fascination with history, he then spent the next two decades completely immersed in the international wine world. Working in wine distribution channels and traveling across legendary terroirs in California, Oregon, France, and Italy, he further expanded his wine professionalism by earning his credentials as a WSET Level 3-certified sommelier.
For Silouan, wine has never been a mere profession; it is a lifestyle that reflects our community connection and inspires a lifetime of learning and storytelling.
Cultivating a Texas Wine Community
Though Andrea and Silouan traveled down entirely different roads, they arrived at the exact same destination. They recognized that honest natural wine requires dedicated nurturance, and that a tasting room should feel like a place of refuge where we can connect with each other through gracious hospitality.
When you make the short, refreshing drive out to Wasp Creek Road near Sisterdale, we treat every guest who walks through the door like family, not just a customer passing through. The Tryphon wine community is our family— and we are so grateful that our homestead naturally nourishes harmonious exchanges to all that visit.
